ARCASIA, the Architects Regional Council Asia, is a council consisting of the Presidents of national institutes of architects in the Asian region that are members of the organization. The organization serves as an extension for each member institute's regional program and relations. This council meets annually to deliberate and to give collective direction and representation to matters that affect architectural profession in the region. Established in 1979, its membership consists of 15 countries at present.

ARCASIA member countries are still retaining their unique cultural characteristics stemming from their deep-rooted traditions, though influences from the West are transforming cultures of this area into uniformity. There have been worries whether it is possible to find an Asian identity in this age of rapid international cross-breeding pf cultures. This book seems to testify that the deep-rooted culture bound responses to the similar influencing factors such as colonization, industrialization, and urbanization reveal the dynamic essence of architecture in the region of the ARCASIA countries.
