If has been one of The Stock Exchange of Thailand's (SET) goals since 1995 to help listed Thai companies achieve the practice of good governance. In 1998, the SET issued requirements that all listed companies have an audit committee and a guideline, namely, the "Code of Best Practices for Directors of Listen Companies" . The SET Believes that management under these guidelines should help ensure a high standard of best practice of corporate governance. In 2002, when the Thai governance set up the National Corporate Governance Committee, the SET aggressively followed the government's lead in designating 2002 as the "Compass for Good Corporate Governance" and implemented fifteen principles starting from the accounting period ending December 31,2002. Listed companies are required to demonstrate in their annual registration statement how they have applied each of the fifteen principles. In addition, the SET has also established a Corporate Governance Center to help listed companies develop their corporate governance system.
