The workbook is designed to function as a companion to the English for Life coursebook. It focuses on reinforcing the variety of skills which the coursebook promotes. These are the skills required for effective communication, for thinking purposes, and for enriching both work and leisure.

       The exercises in this workbook are learner-centred. The learning process is meticulously mapped out so that the learner proceeds comfortably from one level to the next in acquiring the skills needed. Rubrics are precise and specific, and clearly define the aims of each exercise.

       This workbook incorporates a range of text types that students are exposed to when they asses information from the world around them and when they interact with others. There are also text types that encourage literary respone. Each unit is organized for the purpose of integrating practice in listening, reading and writing.

       Grammar is learnt in context and where necessary, students are guided by learning points made explicit. They need to understand the grammar of text types against the backdrop of grammar conventions.

       This workbook encourages independent learning and allows the teacher to act merely as a facilitator.
