The stories also provide opportunities for literary study through the analysis of character of character and plot and through the exploration of features such as tension, climax, cause and effect, motive and relationships. A section on Creative Writing is a feature of each thematic Unit, involving the imaginative re-creation of aspects of each story in a variety of forms. Many of these approaches will stand students in good stead in studying a story selection at the upper secondary level in preparation for the 'O' level Literature examination.

But most of all, these two books were compiled to bring enjoyment and personal involvement into the study of short stories. They provide students and teachers with stories and tasks which are thought-provoking, interesting in themselves and have a direct relevance to everyday life.

A Teacher's Handbook is available for each book which gives detailed advice on the teaching of EXPLORING SHORT STORIES as well as guidance for assisting students in their own story writing. The Handbook also includes a selection of examination questions sample answers to many of the tasks and activities.
