The emphasis of the new General Music Programme (GMP) implemented in 2008 is on experiential awareness and the learning of music. This is especially so with reference to Singapore's rich cultural diversity and the availability of numerous musical genres.

    The First Steps to Music series is a collaborative effort between Star Publishing and the Ministry of Education, Singapore. It take Primary 1 to 6 Students on a journey of discovery through a holistic course of interaction, expression and creation.

    Students are exposed to the basic elements of music pitch, rhythm, denamics, timbre, texture and structure. With this underlying conceptual foundation, students are able to listen, sing, and think through the varied songs and music to a greater extent.
