"Learning Skills Series : English" is a series of three books that teach pre-school children the basic literacy skills for reading and writing. This series is made up of three books, one book for each level from Nursery to Kindergarten 2. This book, written for Kindergarten 1 children, is arranged thematically. The vocabulary and sentence structures used are based on a child's oral repertoire of common English words and phrases heard or spoken at home. This enhances the child's ability to make the link between the printed words (letter-symbols) and the spoken ones.

    The learning activities in this book are structured to help a child cross the bridge from "sound symbol" to "meanings" . When the child is able to identify a word, he/she will have little difficulty learning what the word means. The process of translating "letter-sound" to "word-symbol" to "word meaning" comprises the fundamental reading skills that remain a stumbling block for many young readers.
