Model Essays is designed to meet two objectives: one, to help students develop skills in essay writing; and two, to provide them with ideas and facts related to particular topics. The 48 essays in the book hence serve as models of well-written essays, which students can read and for which they are given guidance on how the essays are structured. In studying them, students will also acquire sound knowledge and ideas and become familiar with the techniques of writing interesting essays.

Mohd Anwari graduated from the University of Singapore in 1970. As a teacher, he taught English at Swiss Cottage Secondary School and both English and Economics at Raffles Institution and Victoria School. He then took up journalism and worked as Executive Broadcast Journalist until his retirement in 2000. Anwari has 24 years of experience in writing and is also currently involved in editing books for adults and children.
