I have only known Adjarn Sulak for half his extremely productive life, and during this period, like the good friends that we are, have fought with him, supported him in exile, helped him in a few of his many important struggles, and learned so much from his prolific writings, and from the days and weeks that we have discussed issues of non violence and social transformation together. Though Adjan Sulak has always considered himself as an engaged Buddhist from Siam, he is clearly the product of many different cultural influences, western as well as eastern, and is thus as much at ease in the forests of Siam as in the corridors of the World Bank; as much able to talk to peasants, as to world religious and political leaders.
If I were to try to evaluate his diverse achievements over the first seven decades of his turbulent and prolific life, as am activist I would look for where he has had the greatest impact on social reality. Will his most lasting contribution be as writer, as a publisher, as a social activist, as a bridger of   cultures, or as a teacher. All are of course important, but for me his most significant contribution has been the help and support that he has constantly provided the young Thais in staring their own struggle to improve the world around them in a non-violent and humane way.
Much has been achieved by Adjarn Sulak duing these past years, but I know he will not stop or slow down yet, but will redouble his efforts to create right understanding and right action in many important and diverse areas.
   We all wish him well.
