Sounds to Learn, Book 2 revisits the most common ways to form sounds in the English language as covered in Sounds to Learn, Book 1. In Book 2, spelling is the focus, with a view to enabling students to learn to spell a list of words related to each sound. The activities are suitable for lower primary students who are familiar with phonic sounds and are ready to further investigate by using a ‘family group’ approach.

    Each page follows a consistent layout to allow the students to concentrate solely on learning to spell the words, apply spelling rules and practice their dictionary skills. The innovative design and layout of the worksheets encourages students to develop their handwriting skills while studying phonics.

    A number of charts and aids have been provided at the front of the book to support the worksheets and ensure students ate surrounded by a language rich environment. The charts provide valuable opportunities for students to access the phonic sounds whenever they are needed. Students still developing a knowledge of phonic sounds will benefit from first working through Sounds to Learn, Book 1.
