Stand Out Reading & Writing Challenge was written to give students additional practice in vocabulary, reading, and writing, while focusing students’ attention on life skill content. Stand Out Reading & Writing Challenge is aligned with the basal series and is divided into eight distinct units, mirroring competency areas most useful to newcomers. These areas are outlined in CASAS assessment programs and different state model standards for adults.

No prior content knowledge is required to use Stand Out Reading & Writing Challenge. However, students will need the skill background necessary for their particular level. The books can be used as a supplemental component to Stand Out or as a stand alone text.
