The essential guide to map reading is designed to teach map reading and data interpretation skills to students sitting the GCE 'O' level geography elective exam. This book consists of three main sections-map reading skills, map reading practice, and skills in basic techniques.

- Map reading skills
Students are taught the skills for reading the physical and human features on a topographical map. More importantly, the inter relationship between human interaction and the physical environment, and the resulting human landscapes are discussed. This section will help students prepare for the compulsory question 1 in section a of the GCE 'O' level exam.

- Map reading practice
Exam-type questions are provided for practice and reinforcement of map reading skills. The questions are also useful for revision before the exam.

- Skills in basic techniques
Basic techniques in reading and analyzing data in photographs, sketches of photographs, graphs, tables and statistical maps are taught in detail in this section.
