Monarchy is a legitimate form of government along with other forms such as aristocracy and democracy. The book offers the defense of the idea of monarchy from a comparative constitutional law approach. It follows a historical development of monarchy from the ancient times to the contemporary world. The presentation of the ancient Chinese, Indian, Christian, and Islamic conceptions of monarchy is followed by more modern theories that emerged from the time of the Reformation and the Renaissance. It is argued that a constitutional monarchy can aflirm better the principle of the separation of powers and protect better human rights than democratic or aristocratic forms of government under certain conditions. Those conditions are one of the central topics of this book.
